Germany’s Highlights – a Circular Tour

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Munich
After your arrival in Munich meet your local guide for a city tour through the capital of Bavaria during which you can see the most interesting places of Munich, such as Munich‘s oldest square, the Marienplatz, the “Frauenkirche” church and more. Then check in at your hotel in Munich. Dinner and accommodation.

 

Day 2: Munich – Nuremberg
After breakfast you will leave Munich and continue to Nuremberg, birth place of the famous artist Albrecht Dürer and today well known for its spicy sausages and delicious ginger bread. In the afternoon your local guide will take you on a city tour. The historic quarter of Nuremberg is encircled by its medieval wall which used to serve as the city‘s defence system. Preserved until today are guard towers, wide gates and other intact buildings and alleys that evoke a picturesque impression of the middle ages and the renaissance period. Almost directly in the centre of the historic city stands the most beautiful of Nuremberg‘s gothic churches, the Lorenzkirche, with high square towers and a splendidly sculptured entrance. Then continue to your hotel in Nuremberg. Dinner and accommodation.

 

Day 3: Nuremberg – Rothenburg ob der Tauber – Würzburg
This morning you will leave Nuremberg and travel to Rothenburg-ob-der-Tauber, a famous historic city with almost completely intact medieval city walls. Take your time and enjoy your guided city tour in Rothenburg, which has achieved to preserve its medieval and renaissance character over centuries. Then carry on to Würzburg. Dinner and accommodation in the Würzburg area.

 

Day 4: Würzburg – Hamburg
After today‘s breakfast your local guide will show you the most interesting places of Würzburg, such as the medieval fortress Marienberg, the prince-bishops residencial palace and the Cathedral. In the afternoon you will travel North, until you will reach the Hamburg area. Dinner and accommodation in your hotel.

 

Day 5: Hamburg
Hamburg is one of the most interesting places in the world. Your local guide has his ways how to transmit this first impression of this interesting big city; a cruise through Hamburg‘s harbour which extends over a distance of 15 kms along the river Elbe. Besides being Germany‘s most important seaport, it creates this special cosmopolitan atmosphere which is so fascinating about Hamburg. The facades along the Alster embankment intensify this impression of Hamburg‘s Hanseatic and metropolitan character with large parks, famous churches and beautiful palaces. In the late afternoon return to your hotel. Dinner and accommodation.

 

Day 6: Hamburg – Cologne
In the morning you will leave Hamburg and travel to the Hanseatic city of Bremen, which is situated on the river Weser near the North Sea. Bremen is a city with interesting historic roots; since 1284 it had been a member of the Hanseatic League until it became free imperial town. Today it is Germany‘s second most important seaport after Hamburg. In the afternoon continue to Cologne. Dinner and accommodation in your hotel.

 

Day 7: Cologne – Bonn – Heidelberg
After breakfast your local guide will show you the historic centre of Cologne. You will see the famous Cathedral, dedicated to St Peter, with its extraordinary complex of towers that are Cologne‘s landmark and indicate from far that you are approaching Cologne. In the afternoon continue to Bonn and undertake a tour of the city that used to be Germany‘s capital for a few decades. Then carry on to the Heidelberg area. Dinner and accommodation in your hotel.

 

Day 8: Heidelberg – Departure after Breakfast
In the morning you local guide will take you on a city tour in Heidelberg which lies in a beautiful area at the mouth of the Neckar valley. This famous town with Germany‘s oldest university has been able to keep its romantic charme and is today considered as one of the most picturesque cities in the West of Germany. In the afternoon start your homeward journey.
